I have now seen Aura Matt and Bath and Spa used directly from the tin onto bare new plaster with success in that the first coat adhered well and the second coat provided a good finish. Both of these have appeared on another deccies Twitter feed if you want to check out his media for the videos and pictures its

twitter.com/buxtondecs Thanks for keeping us posted Daz. Just be aware that just because a Matte sheen sticks well, doesn't necessarily mean the other sheens will. Flats and Matte seem to grip more than other sheens. Think of it as the reverse of painting over sheens... Flat grips to new paint better than it does to Simi-gloss.

I have used BM Regal Select Flat and Aura Eggshell on bare plaster on my last job and was very impressed with adhesion and coverage. As such we no longer mist coat!
On trim however, we no longer paint directly on pre primed mdf with the Aura as we find it leaves brush marks on the initial coat due to excessive absorption from the mdf. We thinned down 10% but still not enough and BM said no more than that if not if affects the product.
We use mythic all purpose primer first as it is very thin and easy to sand out the initial brush marks. After using a lot of the Aura, we found it doesn't sand great, same as their primers.
We have tried gardz and that was ok, but find that it fuzzes over the primed mdf and you can't get a nice smooth finish that you can when sanding a primer.
Benjamin Moore paint is our go to paint now. Regal for walls and Aura for trim. Great products.
They spray great too. If we spray them we can skip the mythic primer as 1st sprayed coat covers amazing

Would people recommend x2 coats or x3 coats of regal select over bare plaster/drywall? Or x1 primer and x2 top coats. Should it be a 3 coat system for proper coverage and sheen?

Should it be a 3 coat system for proper coverage and sheen? 1 Coat Gardz. 2 Coats Paint. Boom! Job well done! One coat Gards - easier and faster to apply than Paint or Primer. 1st coat paint will not need as much because Gardz will seal the surface. Next coat builds sheen and paint mils . Just My two cents.
