One of the most important aspects of obtaining referral business is the one I mention the least (three times in 20 years) to be exact. It doesn't make a difference if we are talking about our painting business or a brush company. To care in today's society is something unique and with caring comes a different effortless result. In other words, something occurs without intent, it just occurs on its own.
My most prominent mention of how caring impacts our business was in the article Two Paths to Growing Our Business written a few years back. You can find it later under the Good to Read section here on ProBoards.
I always find it interesting and curious the path people take to basically achieve the same end-result. The main distinction is cause vs. no-cause or effort vs. no effort or created vs. just occurred on its own. People literally devise a plan to grow their painting business through all sorts of methods and the interesting part is the omission of caring about the customer. The most important part!
So, the difference here is backwards. Clearly backwards. Customer first because we need them for a reason to speak on our behalf to others without any interaction from us. No effort.
These are two very different strategic approaches to achieving the same result. People either try to force the occurrence or people don't do anything and it occurs on its own.
