The Purdy mini roller frame looks sort of like a yellow copy of the Wooster Jumbo coater mini frame, but make no mistake, it pales in comparison!
I bought one of the Purdys to try and after just one use, the thing barely wold roll. I soaked it in lacquer thinner to loosen it, which it did, however, it is still tight and moves poorly. I can't be bothered with that sort of nonsense.
Funny story: I mentioned to the guy in the SW store that those frames were crappy, and he told Me another guy had problems with his till he drilled little holes in the part that the cover slides onto. He claims that the water and paint drains out of the holes (seems like they'd accomplish the opposite) but who has time for that?
I told the guy that My Wooster frame (which SW no longer carries since they own Purdy) has never given Me a problem over all the years I've had it, even after the little end cap fell off after several years of use, so why would I bother getting the Purdy and drilling holes?

Is it this one? I had to take mine apart the first time I used it for 30 minutes. Never had any problems with the Wooster Jumbo Koters except the end cap getting stuck inside a cover.

Ya know Mike... on the topic of Determining our true worth... when we set our hourly rate at $120+ per hour, its stupid stuff like this that becomes intolerable. I simply do not have time to waste. 15 minutes screwing around with something like a defective product design is a big deal. How many rooms can I paint in 15 minutes or how many gallons can I roll? People in the past argued efficiency isn't all that its cracked up to be. I'm not sure what to say to those people. They can't see it because they haven't had a taste of it yet.

Yes, worst piece of Crap! I seriously wouldn't buy another one even if it only cost a dollar! Even if you lose the end cap on the Wooster, it doesn't skip a beat and works just fine. Most of the mini roller covers that go on those are not open ended anyway, so it really doesn't make a difference. I bought a new Wooster, but to be honest, I can't tell the difference between the eight year old one and the new one except for aesthetics . I should clarify, the green Wooster Jumbo Coater, not the cheaper black handled ones they started selling at the Big Box stores. I've heard some negatives about those.

You're absolutely right Brian!
Let's look at the anatomy of a poor purchase...
Go to store, buy product - 1 Hr. Get product to work site and begin painting... product fails... Wasted time! clean off crappy product for return 10 Min. Go back to store, return product - 1 Hr. Go to different store to get product that works, 1/2 Hr. Back to Job site to accomplish what could have been accomplished with the previous step.
Crappy products have no place when it come to efficiency.

Crappy products have no place when it come to efficiency. Its simple math. $120 per hour is $2 per minute. I spent more than 15 minutes taking that Purdy mini roller frame apart. Im sure it was 30 minutes all said and done. 30 minutes @ $2 per/min = $60 How much does that mini roller frame cost? See... its not an option.

That frame won an award for innovation, except the people who were part of the nomination weren't professional painters. I believe they sell that frame as a "professional" product. I know they like to use "quality" and "professional" a lot in their marketing. Sounds impressive, but the disconnect occurs when you're let down over and over and over.

I tossed mine. I use throat seal oil on the large frame. Stoped into SW cause I misplaced my Wooster R042 Sherlock Gt Conversion Tips. "Sorry, we don't service that brand anymore." Off to PPG, "sorry, we are all out.... Blah blah... Go back to the job and there's one attached to 18" frame!

Brian,
I went back and tried the button on the Purdy Extension poll Again. I can't press it down with My thumb in most positions! It takes two hands to press that damn thing down. Now that's ridiculous! Some weaker vessels might not be able to do it with two.
Absolutely Worthless. Even at 20 bucks!
